My work

Everything I do now goes back to one question: would this have reached me?

Anabranch Plus

I am the founder and CEO of Anabranch Plus, a social enterprise that works with people in prison and in the community to rebuild confidence, skills and routes into work. I co-founded it with Les Gill.

An anabranch is a channel that leaves the main river, runs its own course for a while and then rejoins it further downstream. That is what we help people do.

Boards and roles

  • Trustee, Switchback: mentoring and employment support for young men in prison and after release.
  • Lived experience expert, NHS Mindset-XR advisory board, with the Health Innovation Network.
  • Fellow of the RSA.

Speaking

I speak about reading, rehabilitation and lived experience, and about what employers, schools and prisons can do differently. Recent talks include a panel for the literacy charity Chapter One at KPMG in Canary Wharf, a Council of Europe conference in Albania on high-risk prisoners in the Western Balkans, the Human Library at the Spiritual Ecology Festival, and a live Q&A for Impulse: Playing with Reality at the BFI London Film Festival.
